If the apprentice is aged between 16 and 18, 100% of the cost of the apprenticeship training is funded by the SFA.

If they are aged 19 or over they are only part-funded, so a contribution from the employer will be required.

The funding is sent directly to the College.


Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE grant)

The Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE Grant) is for those companies who employ 16-24 year olds.

You may be eligible for a grant if:

The grant aims to support businesses who would not otherwise be in a position to recruit apprentices and is available for apprentices working towards approved apprenticeship frameworks. 

Employers can apply for up to 5 grants in total and is available for apprenticeships starting up to the end of August 2017, subject to eligibility and availability.

Apprenticeship Levy

The way the government funds apprenticeships in England is changing.  From April 2017 all employers operating in the UK with an annual pay bill of over £3 million will be required to contribute to the new apprenticeship levy. Employers are being encouraged to use this contribution by investing in training apprentices.
